For years, tequila fans and bartenders have made the journey to Mexico in order to buy bottles of Tequila Tepatico, produced by Carlos Camerena on his family-run estate distillery.

Now, thanks to a partnership between Tepatico and Charbay Winery and Distillery in California, Tepatico will be available in the United States for the first time. The partnership began when Charbay decided to distill its own tequila, and Camarena invited Charbay’s father-son team, Miles and Marko Karakasevic, to his distillery to learn. Out of the experience, a friendship between the two families developed. Today, Charbay is the USA importer of Tepatico.

According to the press release, “Tapatio has an authentic spicy flavor that is disappearing in modern Tequilas. Its lore was earned with 75 years of one family’s dedication to all the old traditional steps of making Tequila.”
