Scotch Distilling at GW’s Pad

The original George Washington whiskey distillery at Mount Vernon was one of the largest in the new country. The distillery reopened in 2007.

To commemorate the importance of this distillery, master distillers from Scotland’s Glenmorangie, Laphroaig and Cardhu distilleries will be producing 55-proof single-malt whiskey using barley imported from Scotland. This will be the first single malt ever to be produced at the historic distillery. If you want to get your hands on a bit of history, however, you may be in for a fight. Only 100 bottles will be produced and auctioned off to raise money for charity.

You can still buy George Washington Rye Whiskey from the Mount Vernon gift shop. Just be prepared to shell out a few dollars; it sells for almost $100 a bottle.
