Sam Adams Adds Whiskey to Its Repertoire
The makers of Samuel Adams beers are taking a crack at craft distilling. Boston Beer Company, together with western Massachusetts-based Berkshire Mountain Distillers, will produce a pair of whiskeys made from Sam Adams beer.
Since whiskey is essentially just distilled beer, it will be interesting to see how the flavors of the two beers, the classic Boston Lager and the limited-edition Cinder Bock, contribute to the characters of each whiskey. Boston Lager’s flavor is a balance between sweet caramel and notes of citrus and pine, while the Cinder Bock boasts a malty sweetness and a rich smokiness.
It will take two years of aging before the public can get their hands on the initial batch of 12,000 bottles and begin to judge the intriguing collaboration between big brewer and craft distiller.
