Origin Collection Brings Terroir Concept to Gin

U.K.-based spirits retailer Master of Malt wants to show you how the concept of terroir, the effect that a geographic location has upon its local produce, affects gin.

Master of Malt has developed the Origin collection of four gins. Each gin is produced with juniper harvested from a different region of the world to demonstrate how the terroir affects the flavor of the juniper and, consequently, the gin. Each gin is made from the same base spirit, with no additional flavors or botanicals except the juniper berries, sourced from one of four locations: Albania, Italy, Bulgaria and The Netherlands. Terroir is more commonly associated with wine, but its effect on gin is intriguing, to say the least.

The gins are available through the Master of Malt website. Try substituting a selection from the “Origin” collection into the ageless Bee’s Knees cocktail or the summertime classic Tom Collins.
