Hooch Bartender Wins 2012 Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge

Bartender David Delaney Jr. is this year’s overall winner of the Angostura Cocktail Challenge and received the grand prize of $10,000. He also won in the freestyle category. The competition finals were held in Trinidad, where 15 bartenders from around the world competed to create two original cocktails in two categories: rum and freestyle.

Delaney won the competition with two cocktails: one called the “Five Island Fizz” (Angostura 5 Year Gold Rum, Velvet Falernum, lime juice, maraschino liqueur, ginger beer, and Angostura bitters), and the other called “On Second Thought” (Applejack, Benedictine, Cherry Heering, maple syrup, lemon juice, and Angostura bitters).

Delany currently tends bar at Shake & Stir in Worcester, MA. “It is important to me to make connections with my guests and treat them to a full and unique experience, individual to their current mood, each and every time they enter my bar,” he says of his bartending style.
