THL: What is it?
Square One is distilled from organic rye.
THL: Why should you try it?
Artisanal is one way of putting it; any cocktail steps up twelve notches with Square One. These spirits are made especially for culinary cocktails with all organic ingredients.
THL: Who makes it?
Square One was founded by Allison Evanow, an business school graduate and ex-bartender. She first worked at Jose Cuervo, and realized she preferred vodka over tequila for its versatility in cocktails.
THL: What does it taste like?
This vodka is a lean, mean, skinny machine. The rye pokes out with some peppers. Add some water, and you’ll taste some cereal and spice.
THL: How should you drink it?
Kevin Burke recommends using Square One Organic in the Dizi (Italian slang for “bumble bee”) cocktail:
Dizi
1-3/4 ounces Square One Organic Vodka
1/2 ounce Jacopo Poli Grappa de Miele (A blend of Grappa and a honey distillate)
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
Combine ingredients in your tin with plenty of ice. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds, and fine strain into chilled cocktail glass. Spritz lemon oil over top of glass, and garnish with lemon twist, discarded
