THL: What is it?

Smooth Ambler Exceptional White Whiskey is a little on the funky side, in a good way. This vegetal, grassy spirit is 100 proof moonshine.

THL: Why should you try it?

Smooth Ambler uses the exact same recipe in their aged bourbons, but they wanted to release an un-aged whiskey to reflect the grain flavor in its purest form. Those familiar with un-aged corn whiskey will instantly recognize the distinct smell of freshly husked corn similar to that of cornmeal. Smooth Ambler White Whiskey is primarily comprised of corn and wheat with a touch of barley. The barley adds a little bit of spice and additional depth, and the wheat adds a bit of smoothness.

THL: Who makes it?

Two lifelong business partners decided in 2008 to start a distillery in the clean, rolling hills of Appalachia. One and a half years and a lot of hard work later, Smooth Ambler broke ground. The distillers mill all their grain on site and use water from nearby mountain streams to make their spirits.

THL: What does it taste like?

cornbread, wheatgrass

THL: How should you drink it?

The Smooth Ambler White Whiskey Manhattan is a fun spin on a classic Manhattan cocktail. Try it with Smooth Amber’s aged bourbons to compare how the barrels change the flavor of the whiskey.

The Smooth Ambler White Whiskey Manhattan
1-1/2 ounces Exceptional White Whiskey
1 ounce Drambuie
1 dash of Angostura Bitters
Splash of Ginger Ale
Maraschino Cherry

Add first 3 ingredients to mixing glass filled with ice. Stir for 30-45 seconds. Strain into old-fashioned glass filled with ice or into a martini glass with no ice. Top with Ginger Ale, and garnish with cherry.
