THL: What is it?
Rittenhouse is a traditional rye whiskey with strong sweet and spicy notes.
THL: Why should you try it?
Rittenhouse is great for any and all whiskey drinkers looking for a delicious, moderately-priced whiskey carrying a little extra punch. Rittenhouse is something of an underdog in the whiskey world if only because it hails from Bourbon country. While ryes were all but forgotten in the mess the United States made of itself during Prohibition, Rittenhouse stands the test of time as a truly great rye: spicy, rich and strong. A true American classic.
THL: Who makes it?
Rittenhouse is produced by Heaven Hill Distilleries, the country's largest independently owned and operated distillery that started operations right after Prohibition was repealed.
THL: What does it taste like?
Spice, sweet honey
THL: How should you drink it?
When cocktailing with Rittenhouse, one finds the spirit virtually without boundaries. Except those set by a person's low tolerance. And that's not just a Prohibition joke. Rittenhouse is bottled in bond and comes out as strong as almost any other at 100-proof. With that in mind, if a strong cocktail is what you're after, slot Rittenhouse into any of your favorite rye cocktails. But take it slow. It's sneaky as all get out.
Other suggestions:
If you're a Manhattan drinker, Rittenhouse might be your new best friend. While nothing completely out of the ordinary aside from it being a high-proof spirit, this rye is a great way to take a traditional classic up a notch without breaking the bank. It's not often that a rye of this quality and strength is sold at such a low price. Might be a good time to take advantage. It's hard to believe it can stay a secret much longer.
