Mount Gay Eclipse Rum
THL: What is it?
Mount Gay Eclipse Rum is produced in the Barbados and aged in Kentucky oak bourbon barrels.
THL: Why should you try it?
Mount Gay will elevate your rum and Coke to new heights without breaking the bank. Mount Gay is one of the oldest rum producers in the world, and they are consistently awarded top marks across their portfolio. Mount Gay Eclipse was first created in 1910 to commemorate the total solar eclipse that occurred in the same year. The rum is aged for a minimum of two years, but picks up quite a bit of spice from the bourbon barrels in that short time frame. The rum is on the lighter side, for a gold rum, and packs a bit of a kick.
THL: Who makes it?
Mount Gay has distilled rum on Barbados since 1703, making it one of the oldest rum brands in the world. They also produce Mount Gay Rum Eclipse Silver, Mount Gay Rum Extra Old, and Mount Gay Rum 1703 Old Cask Selection.
THL: What does it taste like?
vanilla, banana, caramel, smoky, cinnamon
THL: How should you drink it?
Ideal for mixing in any cocktail calling for gold rum. Some purists, may want to sip it neat, but we found it much more enjoyable when paired with a mixer. Try the Mount Gay Trident from cocktail historian, David Wondrich.
