THL: What is it?

McKenzie Bourbon Whiskey from Finger Lakes Distilling is first aged in new, small 10 gallon charred oak barrels and finished in used Chardonnay casks for a rich, buttery bourbon. All the grains, fruit, and botanicals used by Finger Lakes come from local New York farmers.

THL: Why should you try it?

The distillers Thomas McKenzie ages this bourbon at a lower proof, which means that he loses more to evaporation and ends up with less whiskey, but the resulting hooch is of superior quality.

THL: Who makes it?

Finger Lake Distilling is owned by Thomas and Brian McKenzie (who are not related). The distillery mirrors traditional Scottish distilleries in design and overlooks the beautiful Seneca Lake in upper state New York. Onsite they also make gin and grappa.

THL: What does it taste like?

an alcoholic Heath candy bar, with flavors of toffee, vanilla, dark chocolate, and cinnamon

THL: How should you drink it?

The McKenzie Cobbler makes great use of Finger Lake’s delicious cherry liqueur.

1 tsp Superfine Sugar
1 tbsp Water
1 tbsp Finger Lakes Distilling Cherry Liqueur
1 slice of Orange cut into quarters
