THL: What is it?
Kilbeggan is crafted using a combination of two other Irish whiskies from the Cooley Distillery portfolio, Cooley’s Greenore Single Grain 8 Year Irish Whiskey and The Tyrconnell Single Malt whiskey.
THL: Why should you try it?
Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey is a good entry-level Irish whiskey as it is not overly complex in character, but a good sampling of what a headier Irish whiskey has to offer.
THL: Who makes it?
The Cooley Distillery was founded in 1987 to resurrect some of the Irish whiskey brands that were no longer being produced at the time. Irish whiskey was reduced to a single company in the early 1970s, Bushmills. Cooley founder John Teeling acquired some old Irish whiskey brands and began to revive production. The Cooley Distillery produces Connemara 12 Year Old, Connemara Cask Strength, Michael Collins Irish Whiskey, Michael Collins 10 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey, Greenore Single Grain Irish Whiskey, and Kilbeggan Whiskey.
THL: What does it taste like?
Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey is mildly sweet with flavors of chocolate covered coffee beans, burnt sugar, almonds, and vanilla. It is light, drinkable and versatile making it well suited for use in a variety of whiskey cocktails.
THL: How should you drink it?
Kilbeggan works well in most whiskey cocktails. Try it in a festive cocktail for St. Patrick's Day.
