THL: What is it?

High West Whiskey Double Rye! gets its name from the 2-year-old and the 16-year-old straight rye whiskeys that are blended to create this masterpiece. It earns it’s exclamation mark by tasting so damn good.

THL: Why should you try it?

High West Whiskey distills many of their own whiskeys, but for their Double Rye! they used some older spirits to play with the kids. The younger rye they use has a lively, spicy spirit in need of some taming. This is exactly why High West chose to blend it with a mature rye made of a “barely legal” mix of 53% rye and 37% corn. The old age and ample corn provide a sweetness needed to tame the wild young rye, and the pair lives in perfect harmony.

THL: Who makes it?

High West is a distillery that you can literally ski up to from Park City's infamous mountain peaks. Owner David Perkins is a retired biochemist from California.

THL: What does it taste like?

Like many straight rye whiskeys, High West Whiskey Double Rye! starts with the flavors of warm Christmas spice. The flavor fades with a hint of cinnamon, tempting you to take another sip.

THL: How should you drink it?

Ever had a cocktail that is so good you couldn't even speak? Ciaran Wiese of 47 Scott in Tuscon, AZ brings us The Great Silence, which will quiet even that chattiest Cathy.

1/4 ounce Luxardo Maraschino
