THL: What is it?
Edinburgh Gin is distilled with the traditional gin botanicals juniper, coriander, citrus peel, angelica and orris root, as well as pine heather and milk thistle.
THL: Why should you try it?
The Spencerfield Spirit Company introduced Edinburgh Gin in 2010 as a tribute to the long history of the gin distillers of Edinburgh. It is crafted from Scotland’s finest grains and delicate Scottish botanicals and is the first gin offered by Spencerfield Spirit Company, which also makes an interesting line of blended whiskies. Edinburgh Gin starts with traditional London Dry botanicals, but steps out of the box with the addition of locally harvest Scottish botanicals, including Scottish juniper, pine, heather, and milk thistle.
THL: Who makes it?
The Spencerfield Spirit Company is a family-run distillery located near the Firth of Forth in Scotland. It was founded by the former marketing manager of Glenmorangie, who now runs Spencerfield from a 16th-century farmhouse with his wife. They distill Sheep Dip Malt Whisky, Pig’s Nose Scotch Whisky, and Sheep Dip Old Hebridean 1990.
THL: What does it taste like?
Sipping on Edinburgh Gin is like walking through the Scottish pines on a cold winter morning. This hooch is bracing, refreshing, and earthy with a warm cinnamon-ginger spiciness making it a perfect gin for wintertime cocktails.
THL: How should you drink it?
Edinburg Gin is inspired by the glory days of cocktails, so why not blend it into a Gin Daisy.
