THL: What is it?

This whiskey is reminiscent of traditional Scottish whiskey styles, but more subtly smoky and sweeter than most.

THL: Why should you try it?

Corsair Artisan is a perfect example of a micro-distiller that’s pushing the limits of experimentation, and their Triple Smoke American Single Malt is a great example of the quality that results from their level of dedication.

The small-batch releases allows the distiller to experiment with unusual techniques and experimental bottles of hooch. Their Triple Smoke American Single Malt Whiskey is no exception, as it starts with three fractions of malted barley, each smoked with a different fuel — cherry, peat and beechwood. It is then barreled in new charred oak, which gives the spirit flavors of honey and caramel and adds its own smoky oak notes. Triple Smoke Whiskey will please single malt lovers and traditional American Whiskey fans.

THL: Who makes it?

Corsair Artisan Distillery has locations in Bowling Green, KY and Nashville, TN. They currently offer Vanilla Bean Vodka, Red Absinthe, Spiced Rum, and Wry Moon Unaged Rye Whiskey. At any give time, you might find a new seasonal/experimental spirit coming out of their stills. The current selection includes Rasputin Hopped Whiskey, 100% Aged Rye, Corsair GinPumpkin Spice Moonshine, and Barrel Aged Gin.

THL: What does it taste like?

It smells like a heady Islay-style malted Scotch whiskey, but is not overpowering in the way that many smoky, briny Scotch whiskies can be, often frightening Scotch novices. In many ways, this is a great starting spirit for fans of whiskey looking to wander into peaty, single malt Scotch territory without taking the full plunge. It’s an incredibly friendly easy-drinking whiskey with a smoky sweet balance, tempting you to take another sip.

THL: How should you drink it?

This whiskey must be experienced neat. But if that’s not your style, try it in any cocktail that could use a touch of smoke like the classic Blood and Sand
