THL: What is it?
Corrido Extra Añejo is a limited production golden highland tequila that gets it’s natural color from the minimum of three years it spends in charred American white oak barrels that previously held Maker’s Mark bourbon whiskey.
THL: Why should you try it?
Corrido Extra Añejo Tequila is made in very small batches in 58 specially selected white oak barrels. The number of the barrel is listed on each bottle, and there are some minor differences in bottles from different barrels. The minor changes are part of the fun of drinking, much like tasting different vintages of your favorite wine over the years. Extra-añejos can often be wildly expensive so the opportunity to try one for under $100 is a rare thing indeed, and rarer still that it’s so damn good.
THL: Who makes it?
Corrido Tequila is produced from 100% blue agave grown in Los Altos in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. They also produce Corrido Tequila Blanco, Corrido Tequila Reposado, and Corrido Añejo. Both the Reposado and the Añejo use a triple-barrel process of aging using a combination of Jack Daniels, Maker’s Mark, and an undisclosed barrel.
THL: What does it taste like?
Caramel, leather, cognac, tobacco, butterscotch, cinnamon spice.
THL: How should you drink it?
Skip the butterscotch candy, and drink this spirit neat for dessert.
