THL: What is it?

Compass Box Peat Monster Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is a blend of heavily smoked peated Islay whiskies and medium peated Speyside whiskies.

THL: Why should you try it?

The name is a tad deceiving as there are certainly whiskies with higher levels of peat and smoke. However, the Peat Monster delivers a heavily peated whisky with more to offer than a briny smoke bomb. The addition of the medium peated whiskies — including a smoky Speyside malt and a peated malt from the Isle of Mull — lend a balance that makes this whisky both drinkable and multi-layered. After the whiskies are blended, Compass Box returns the blend to rest in American oak casks for up to 24 months to allow the flavors to mingle and marry.

THL: Who makes it?

Compass Box was founded in 2000 by whisky maker John Glaser. Glaser worked in the wine trade for Diageo before entering the Scotch whisky world, and quickly became known for his innovative blends that cater to the tastes of a wide range of Scotch drinkers. They produce five signature whiskies and a rotating range of limited edition vatted malts and blended whiskies.

THL: What does it taste like?

Smoky, green apple, sesame, banana

THL: How should you drink it?

Neat or with a few drops of water to dial back the peat.
