THL: What is it?
Cold River Gin is a traditional gin for those looking for an American handcrafted gin that’s not afraid of juniper.
THL: Why should you try it?
The distillers do an excellent job balancing the other citrus and herbal flavors, but the gin is certainly juniper-centric. When crafting the neutral potato base spirit, Cold River Gin uses the entire potato, including the skin. They feel much of the flavor and richness comes from the use of the whole vegetable.
THL: Who makes it?
Maine Spirits Distilleries is located in Freeport, Maine, where they also produce Cold River Classic Vodka and Cold River Blueberry Vodka. Maine Distilleries controls every step of the process from planting the potatoes that make the base spirit for their vodkas and gin to numbering each bottle by hand for a true “ground-to-glass” bottle of hooch.
THL: What does it taste like?
Cold River Gin is crisp, clean and bracing with a strong juniper flaovrs. There is a pleasant earthy bitterness as well that is well-balanced with a bright lemon zest and the warm spice of cardamom.

2 ounces Cold River Vodka
Splash of Godiva chocolate liqueur
Dash of ground chipotle, shake on ice, strain, pour
Rim glass with mixture of sugar, cocoa, ground chipotle
