THL: What is it?

Bulleit Frontier Bourbon Whiskey is made in honor of a an experimental tavern keeper who crafted small batches of bourbon in the 1800s. It is distilled with Kentucky limestone-filtered water and aged in American oak barrels.

THL: Why should you try it?

This is a perfect bourbon whiskey for your flask, and at $24, you will be able to fill it up a bit more regularly. Bulleit is an excellent go-to bourbon for everyday mixing of a variety of whiskey cocktails.

THL: Who makes it?

Tom Bulleit (the great-great grandson of Bulleit founder Augustus Bulleit) began tinkering with his recipe 7 years ago, right about the time that rye whiskey got its groove back. His family has been distilling bourbon for more 150 year, though, and their original recipes are distinctively heavy on the rye.

THL: What does it taste like?

Bulleit Frontier Bourbon Whiskey is more like a rye whiskey than a bourbon. It tastes like peppery oak and bread with a smoky vanilla finish.

THL: How should you drink it?

The Whiskey Ginger cocktail should be in your compendium of drinks to safely order at almost any bar. It’s hard to screw up and only gets better with higher quality whiskey or ginger beer. Bulleit has a nice balance of sweet and spicy. So even if your bar or grocery store doesn’t stock ginger beer, you won’t end up with an overly sweet cocktail.

Whiskey Ginger
2 ounces Bulleit Frontier Bourbon Whiskey
4 ounces Jamaican Ginger Beer (or substitute ginger ale)
Dash of Lime Juice

Add all ingredients to highball glass filled with ice. Gently stir, and serve. Garnish with lime wedge.
