THL: What is it?
Banks 5 Island Blended Rum is a blend of rums aged between three and twelve years and then filtered for clarity with a small addition of Batavia Arrack, a traditional rum-like spirit from Indonesia.
THL: Why should you try it?
Young, white rums aren't typically the most flavorful or the most complex. Banks proves not only the exception, but the standard by which such rums should be measured. A blend of traditional rums from five different island cultures (Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana and Batavia), Banks serves as a much more complex and layered rum than any other its color. With over twenty different rums blended together to reach the final product, Bank's sets the bar for white rums.
THL: Who makes it?
Banks 5 Island Blended Rum is produced by Joseph Banks Rum Corporation and blended in Holland.
THL: What does it taste like?
vanilla, oak, caramel, smoke
THL: How should you drink it?
Because of Banks’ wonderful complexity, it lends itself to virtually any cocktail calling for white rum. It adds real kick to Mojitos and could even trick a person into thinking that there was something more than just rum and coke in their Rum and Coke. But where Banks really sets itself apart is in Daiquiris of any and all kinds. Make a Hemingway Daiquiri with Banks, and you're just steps from a lazy day at the beach.
If you're looking for a real treat, use Banks to make a hybrid cocktail called the Hartigan Dacquiri from Matt Hartigan of TRIX in Brooklyn, NY.
