THL: What is it?

The Balvenie DoubleWood Whisky is aged in first- or second-fill bourbon casks and a full year in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks for a total of 12 years.

THL: Why should you try it?

The Balvenie portfolio is renowned for their floral, honeyed Speyside whiskies and special selection of unique cask aging. The DoubleWood puts sherry center-stage, turning back the signature bright, floral notes and replacing them with dark fruits and caramel. This is a great whisky for enjoying as a light dessert because of its slightly sweet spiciness. It is the perfect end to a good night. The whisky is an incredible value and a treasured bottle among The Balvenie line.

THL: Who makes it?

The Balvenie Distillery was founded in 1893 on Balvenie Mains, a farm that was located next to Balvenie Castle. Much of the barley that is fermented to make The Balvenie Whisky is grown on Balvenie Farms. All of the barley is malted on the distillery floor for maximum quality control, the last distillery in the Scottish Highlands to still have active floor maltings. The Balvenie have an impressive line of spirits with unique finishes that are all worth experiencing at least once, and many are sure to become home bar standards.

THL: What does it taste like?

Sherry, plum, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon

THL: How should you drink it?

Neat. A few drops of water brings back some of the traditional Balevenie flavors of honey and heather.
