THL: What is it?

Aberlour 18 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch whisky is aged for 18 years in a combination of American oak and Oloroso sherry casks.

THL: Why should you try it?

Many good scotch whiskies evoke fruit flavors ranging from pears and peaches to apples and bananas, often evolving in complexity throughout the experience. The Aberlour 18 Year is a perfect example of such a whisky that, while taking on quite a bit of oak flavor in the 18 years in barrels, has distinct notes of orange and dark chocolate. This whisky was only recently introduced to the US. Before 2008 it was only available in the French market, and it is quickly being stowed away on whisky enthusiast’s top shelves.

THL: Who makes it?

Aberlour 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch whisky is produced at the Aberlour Distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland. The distillery uses water from an underground spring nearby. This spring is the very same used by missionaries who established the village of Aberlour in 580 AD. The distillery itself was founded in 1879. The Aberlour 18 Year Old is the eldest of their whisky line which also includes a 10, 12 and 16 Year Old, as well as some special releases.

THL: What does it taste like?

Toffee, apricot, honey

THL: How should you drink it?

Neat or with a few drops of pure water.
