Mint Julep

Mint Julep Bourbon Whiskey Cocktail Drink

How to Make

Gently muddle the simple syrup (or superfine sugar and water) and mint leaves in the bottom of the tumbler. Add crushed ice to the top of the glass. You can use either the crushed ice from your refrigerator, or crush it yourself by muddling it in a separate – and sturdy – glass or cocktail shaker. Then add the bourbon. Stir until the sugar is mostly dissolved. Top with additional crushed ice if necessary. Garnish with remaining sprig of mint. Serve with a straw.

Bartender Stories

John Manwaring

When I’ve made this drink properly, I’ve practically been revered as a deity. When I’ve made it poorly, I’ve been called names that would make a hooker blush. Everybody has their own tastes, but the recipe below is the one that has earned me much drunken praise and many a phone number slipped surreptitiously across the bar.
