Jack Rose Cocktail Recipe

How to Make

Combine in a mixing glass, add ice, and shake. Strain into a small, chilled cocktail glass. This cocktail can be served on the rocks in a short tumbler as well.

Ingredients

Makes one drink:

  • 2 ounces Applejack
  • 1 ounce Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1/2 ounce Classic Grenadine

Garnish

Apple Slice and/or Luxardo Maraschino Cherry

One of the six basic drinks in David Embury's Fine Art of Mixing Drinks. I always see it as a guaranteed bridge between classic and modern cocktails like the Cosmopolitan, Lemon Drop, and other basic sours. Use Applejack if you prefer a milder profile or Calvados or Laird's Bonded Apple Brandy if you're looking for a richer, more apple-y cocktail. Finding the sweet/sour balance is a personal preference. And always use real grenadine, not the stuff that's bright pink from your dusty liquor cabinet.
