Grog Cocktail Recipe

How to Make

Combine the rum, honey syrup, and lime juice in a mixing glass, and stir. Serve over ice in a short tumbler, and add the water. Or serve in a mug topped with hot water.


Makes one drink:

  • 1-1/2 ounces Navy Rum
  • 3/4 ounce Honey Syrup
  • 1/2 ounce Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1-1/2 ounces Water (hot or cold)

Yes, the origins of Grog date back to the 1700s. On sailing vessels. But that won’t stop a self-professed snow lover from calling this an après-ski drink of choice, now will it? The lime helped sailors with scurvy, the rum helped them while away the months at sea, and the sugar made the barrel-stored water taste a little less nasty. But high up in ski country, it’s just a darn fine rum drink served hot to soothe those tired legs after a long day on the slopes.
