This could have just as easily been called "An American in Cuba." Developed by an American bartender in Cuba during Prohibition (and named for Cuban President Gerardo Machado), this one always strikes me (in a very good way) as more of a classic American cocktail and much less of a classic rum or tiki drink. Happily spirit forward, especially during those dark days when America’s best talent moved elsewhere to ply their trade.
