Blood and Sand Scotch Whiskey Drink Recipe

How to Make

In a shaker combine all ingredients, add ice and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Using a hawthorne strainer, strain cocktail into chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a cherry.

Ingredients

Makes one drink:

  • 3/4 ounce Blended Scotch Whisky
  • 3/4 ounce Cherry Heering Liqueur
  • 3/4 ounce Sweet Vermouth
  • 3/4 ounce Orange Juice

1 Cherry

Possibly one of the best Scotch-based classic cocktails, the Blood and Sand was named after a 1922 bullfighting movie starring Rudolph Valentino. The first recipe for a Blood and Sand shows up in the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book and calls for a mixture of equal ounces of Scotch, cherry brandy, sweet vermouth and orange juice. At first glance, this cocktail may seem undrinkable, but with its rich texture and subtle sweetness it's quite an enjoyable cocktail.
