In the first incarnation of Ian Fleming's Casino Royale, Bond orders an Americano for his first cocktail. He then switches to the Vesper when it comes time to tuck in for the poker tournament. We should take this as proof that it's acceptable for manly men to order pink drinks. Botanical and akin to eating a grapefruit like one would an apple, this cocktail is the ultimate pre-dinner aperitif, at once prepping your palate and stomach for the pleasures to come. Remember not to ruin perfectly acceptable Campari with less-than-fresh vermouth. A slice of orange provides an acceptable snack at the end of the drink.
